The 116th Canton Fair came to a close on November 4. According to the statistics, 186104 buyers from 211 countries and regions were present in this fair. The total export volume was RMB 179,203,000,000 (US$ 29,160,000,000), dropping by 6.1% of that of Spring Canton Fair in 2014.
Due to the sluggish recovery of the conventional market and the weak demand of the emerging markets, the export volume was reduced. Compared with the previous fair, the number of buyers present in this fair decreased by 1.07% and the volume of transaction dropped by 6.1%. The volumes of export to trade partners such as EU, U.S.A., BRICs, Middle-East and Japan all decreased by 4% to 19%. Only the export volumes to ASEAN, South Korea and Hong Kong increased.
Judged from the comprehensive analysis of insiders, we should not be too pessimist. Firstly, it is an objective reflection of the fact that the foreign trade has passed to the “new normal”, i.e. from high speed increase to middle and high speed increase; meanwhile, Canton Fair has progressively changed from a transaction platform into a platform of exhibition and information exchange. Secondly, the current foreign trade channels of China are more and more diversified and now nearly every province organizes some theme exhibitions or guide enterprises to participate in various international exhibitions with government subsidies, which will naturally share the visitors of Canton Fair. Especially the recent rapid development of some channels such as the cross-border e-commerce share part of the orders of Canton Fair to some extent.
Consequently, in the new normal, all business companies of the group shall pay more attention to cultivate new advantages and to compete with adversaries by brand, technology, quality and service. In addition, state and local governments launched the policies for cross-border e-commerce successively in the past few years and supported the development of cross-border e-commerce by measures of customs, quality inspection, taxation, foreign exchange, payment and credit. The State Council published Several opinions on supporting the stable growth of foreign trade to encourage Chinese enterprises to establish all kinds of international marketing network such as overseas wholesale and exhibition centers and “overseas warehouses”. All companies of the group shall seriously study the supportive policies of the state and actively explore new trade modes in order to explore more markets or obtain better performance via the diversified platforms such as e-commerce.
